Excerpt:
Let me set the stage for you. My mother was very strict and I was rarely allowed to go anywhere. One of my friends from school invited me to a party. To my surprise my mother actually gave me permission to go. I should have been suspicious about this, but I was so excited I didn't think about it! While I was dancing with the cutest boy, my friend whispered in my ear my mom was outside! After almost blacking out with embarrassment I went outside, and not only was it my mom but it was my cousin's mother and a family friend out there just chatting away with my friends. If there was a bridge nearby I could have jumped off I would have--this gives you an idea of how mortified I was. When I asked my mom and her "crew" why they were there, she replied, "We went for a walk and decided to come pick you both up." Now, teens reading this completely get it. They understand the embarrassment of having your mother pick you up from a party where everyone who is anyone is attending. On the other hand, mothers recognize the logic in this. If you are able to pick up your daughter from a party to make sure she gets home safely, then it is a great idea. Right? Wrong!
