MoreThe Eleventh Commandment and Other Inappropriate Observations is a compilation of short stories based on my personal experiences. Having two gay kids and being in an inter-racial relationship has opened up my eyes to the extreme lack of love and compassion and understanding for anything or anybody that''s different. People who think that there is no such thing as discrimination in the world today should walk a mile in my shoes, or, better yet, my kids'' shoes, or even my boyfriend''s. My kids have been spit on, had food thrown at them, they''ve been laughed at, and ridiculed. I even almost got in a fist fight with some close-minded individuals because of the way they treated my daughter. I was sick for about a week, just couldn''t believe that people could be so cruel. And now one of our fifty states has decided to wage a personal war against gays, banning anything and everything that they have touched. As for my boyfriend, who''s black, by the way, living in affluent San Clemente hasn''t been easy for him. Old rich ladies give him scared looks when he walks by their cars (they automatically reach for their remote control alarms, making sure that their cars are secured). There''s even a young woman, a marine for God''s sake, who lives in our apartment complex who runs from him whenever he''s out walking our dog late at night. How sad for her. Where is the love? That''s all I want to know. We''re supposed to love others as we love ourselves. If only.
