This book covers the lives of Canada Geese and their migration from the cold northern states in the winter time to the warmth of South Texas. It shows the habits and mores that the birds have during their lifetimes. For example, Canada Geese mate for life unless one dies and then the survivor will seek another spouse. This commitment carries through the hatching and rearing of little goslings. A hatch consists of four to six goslings. During their migration, as many fowls do, they fly in a "V" formation giving strength during long trips. By the wonders of nature, they know that the "wing wash" from the goose ahead provides a "lift" for those following behind. It is said that the geese in the rear do a lot of extra "honking" to pressure the others to fly faster.Canada Geese are one of only a few species that look alike. Someone who deals with fowls and other species is usually one of the very few who can distinguish the ganders from the mothers. They say that there is very little distinction in their "honking" except that the ganders have a deeper tone than do the mothers
