At the age of nine, Danny Dalton discovers life isn't always fair and some changes aren't wanted. When Danny's father moves out, his mother informs the family that they need an adventure. The adventure she has in mind is to sell the family's large, beautiful house and start over in a beat-up little brown house on Flemings Drive. As if the move isn't hard enough, Danny and his sister, Allie, have to change schools. St. Matthew's is a lot different from their previous school-especially Father Tom, who welcomes the children each morning by holding an orange traffic cone to his mouth and shouting greetings.
