Before Princess Iris is even born, the once idyllic kingdom of Veryan is suffering from the neglect and idleness of its king, her father. A mysterious sorceress offers hope in the form of a spell, a magical bargain. In return for his promise to fulfil the crown's duty and work for the restoration of his kingdom, the childless king will finally be blessed with an heir. But even as his daughter grows, the king fails to uphold his part of the bargain. Princess Iris's fate appears to be sealed. On her tenth birthday, in a terrible display of sorcery and power, everything changes. No longer even human, the princess is instantly reviled and rejected throughout Veryan. To win back their loyalty, she must summon all of her courage and determination, and unite her people in a bitter struggle to defeat the towering ambition of the sorceress queen.
