When I moved to new Mexico for many years, I became friends with the Native Americans. As I had a little Cherokee blood myself and had always loved animals, it was no mystery that the spirit of the wolf clan was inside me. Upon meeting the people who owned the wild wolf refuge, I met several wolves...all who trusted me and met me with great affection. I fell in love. After learning how abused and endangered the wolf had become, I wanted to find a way to destroy the bad image of the big, bad wolf. These animals do not hunt down man. Men have hunted them down for ages just because they ate one of their cows or sheep for food. Finally, the wolf has made a comeback thanks to the wonderful people who decided to dedicate their time. Never have I seen a children's book like mine. I feel it is about time. Good Wolf is a she-wolf joyously romping about singing her tune and seeking her own Mr. Right. She is very lonely and rightly so...wolves are pack animals. She has dreams about him and wonders what kind of qualities he should have. Other animals along her path are helpful in guiding her, except for a couple of nasty big cats. But she finds him, they court, they have cubs, they have a clan, they sing their Mother Moon song (sometimes sad), they watch their cubs play under Father Sun's warmth and Wolf Angel's guidance. The Nature Spirits helped, too. And there is the wonderful tune "All Baby Things" of all the baby animals and their song. And Good Wolf and Noble Wolf, her mate, give thanks under the rainbow for a great life. 25 very beautiful pictures.
