The Village Spirit is a small capsule of the African proverb that says, "It takes a village to raise a child." The proverb targets adults' responsibilities vis--vis children and the whole society. That is why, in the traditional African village, it was impossible to find a child without a family or a widow without a house. People in the village took care of each other.
In this book the author breaks down the famous proverb into a fiction story to make it enjoyable and easily understandable to third graders. He shows the case of a stubborn person who wanted to challenge the sagacity embedded in the above proverb. The story is so well presented that kids will have a new understanding of the concept "village." The latter is more profound and even mysterious then definitions commonly accepted.
Today's world looks like a single village. In fact, as long as we all have the same sun, moon, stars as our universal roof, and the same oceans, lakes, rivers, and forests as our universal floor, it is an urgency for today's children to understand the real concept of the word "village." This book is a tool that can be used by parents and educators to prepare children to become familiar with the 21st century reality of "globalization."
