Author, 16 year old, Hannah Stuhlhut decided she would test her writing skills and enter the 2007 Tweener Time International Chapter Book Competition. The challenge was for high school students to write a book especially tailored to the 8-12 year olds. A few weeks later she emerged from isolation with "Journey to the Homeland," but that was only the beginning. Next came three months and three layers of judging against an extensive 270 point criteria of writing aptitudes. With her manuscript randomly evaluted by members of a 100 judging pannel stretching across the USA, Canada, and into South America, she was finally ranked the 2007 first place winner. With entrants from 20 states and 11 foreign countries she rose to the top of her peers, winning a college scholarship, a cash prize, a publication contract, and a study trip to Paris for her teacher - which she was permitted to join. All because of her response to a call to write a book that 8-12 year olds would love to read. "Journey to the Homeland" takes place in the mythical land of Diggeret where a young orphan boy, Keegan, wonders from place to place seeking a perminant home. Whenever his "gift" -- the ability to communicate with animals, is discovered -- he is forced to leave. Finally, at the age of eleven, he finds a caring family in the village of Crempton who offers him a home. But even here he must keep his secret from them, especially the existance of his best friend, Adrian -- a jaguar. Through mistaken identities, the king's men come looking for an arrogant young girl, Nora, whom everyone believes is the one who communicates with animals. After she is kidnapped by the king's men, Keegan feels he must redeem himself for his silence and stop the kidnappers. There are five other international winners whose books will also be published by Baker Trittin Press as a part of the 2007 Tweener Time Championship Series. Look for their release throughout 2007.
