Four-year-old Shari Ward saw life and death as a simple process. She explained it to her father as they watched a snake shed its skin. "Oh, I get it," she said. "It's like when people die." MoreFour-year-old Shari Ward saw life and death as a simple process. She explained it to her father as they watched a snake shed its skin. "Oh, I get it," she said. "It's like when people die." "What do you mean, honey? her puzzled father asked. "When you die," she explained, with an air of authority, "you get rid of your old skin then come back to life all over again. You're brand new--just like the snake." "Why do you say that sweetheart?" "That's what I did, and my other mommy did, too." Throughout Shari's lifetime she has experienced adult-like dreams and memories of other times and other places, often under hypnosis, from what she believes to be her past lives. These served to reinforce her childhood belief--or was it really a memory? Shari was convinced that she had a soul mate who traveled many of these lifetimes with her, so she spent much of her adult life searching for him. When her search threatened her marriage, her husband, a non-believer, finally asked her psychologist to co-regress them together to see whether they actually had any lives together and how it might influence their current relationship. The results were startling and drew a parallel to the present lifetime as to which was the dependent one and the protector. Shari eventually thought she found her soul mate and visited his ashram. When she decided to stay there she found it to be more isolating and dangerous than ever could be imagined. Her courage and concern for others led her to a heroic attempt to save them from certain death. With her friends at her side, she admitted she now realized the past is important, but the soul must move forward in this lifetime. Beyond Forever is not a biography. It is a novel, but much of the novel is based on true memories and dreams that cannot be easily explained away. Its main purpose is to entertain, and to some extent, inform the reader and to make some readers ask, "Have I ever lived before?"
