Inspired by The Americans, Robert Frank's classic 1955-1956 study of people across the United States, J. Michael Skaggs embarked on a photographic journey to revisit the 43 locations half a century later. The project was initiated in New York City in 1994. This book presents the candid portraits of the mid-west and northeast made during 1994, 1996, and the Summer of 2002 in Indianapolis; Chicago; Ann Arbor; Detroit; Cleveland; Hoboken, NJ; Jay, NY; Newburgh, NY; New Haven, CT; New York City; En route to Washington, DC and Washington, DC. J. Michael Skaggs will visit the remaining 30 locations, compiling the images into Americans Revisited Volume II in the Summer of 2009. (Savannah was completed in 1996.) Americans Revisited Volume III, which replicates 83 images from the 43 destinations, will be published in the Fall of 2009 coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Robert Frank's original publication by Grove Press, New York in 1959.
