"Rainbow Soul," offers an easy-to-understand introduction to chakras, the ancient belief system about the energy inside each of us.
Suitable for ages 10 and older, "Rainbow Soul" features fourteen full-color beautifully rendered drawings and an accompanying text that gently guides the reader through a discussion of each of the seven chakras. Without jargon, technical information or dogma, "Rainbow Soul" provides an excellent starting point for children and adults to explore the concept of inner strength.
The book unfolds as a conversation between a young girl and a favorite aunt, told from the young girl's perspective. On each page "Aunt Sophie" describes a different chakra and introduces a simple meditation. For example, to introduce the "root chakra" at the base of the spine, Aunt Sophie talks about how it feels to be hot and thirsty and then to reach trees and a stream. She relates that to the fact we all have the same support system--the earth.
"Even if you can't physically get to this place in nature you can create it in your mind," Aunt Sophie tells her niece. A drawing of a child sitting at the root of a tree accompanies the discussion, along with an easy-to-follow affirmation about focusing on the base of the spine, seeing the color red and feeling secure roots grow into the earth.
Marilyn Rich, the Author, decided to write "Rainbow Soul" after she discovered how interested her own nieces and nephews were in the concept of auras and colorful internal energy.
"When I first learned about chakras years ago, the concept was a stretch for my reality. I was skeptical, but willing to open my mind . . . to my surprise, the more I focused on the chakras the more clearly I visualized them. What followed was a definite positive shift in both my physical and spiritual self," Rich writes in an introduction.
"Rainbow Soul" can be used in many ways; as a story book, as a starting point for a discussion between adults and children about developing inner resources, or as a collection of affirmations that can be used as a part of a daily meditation. In addition, the softcover, spiral-bound book is designed so that it can be hung on the wall to reinforce a specific positive thought and showcase any of the full-page illustrations by Barbara Reid Bancroft.
