John Lester, fifteen-year-old son of a well-known actor, is on holiday on the Scottish coast with his fourteen-year- old cousin, Michelle Ward. When, on their way to a picnic, they help a weary motorcyclist who gives Michelle a small present in return, they never imagine that it will lead to their becoming involved in an adventure which takes them up and down Britain and even abroad, as they try to link together the pieces of a puzzling mystery involving silver lockets which seem to interest
more than one gang of crooks. The cousins' quiet holiday is drastically transformed as they find themselves caught in a web of dangerous and often horrifying situations, face the evil schemes of a murderous gang and encounter the terrible Tigress. As new faces constantly appear in the mystery, the cousins desperately try to work out what is going on, while facing perils greater than they have ever experienced in their lives.
