Our young heroine, Jessie, just can't get enough of the old cottage, which houses not only her uncle, but a fun-loving and wise house-keeper, an eccentric but elegantly sophisticated cat named Wickham, a garrulous mynah bird named Flummery, assorted relatives and friends, and more secret passages and fantastical events than any annual carnival could provide.
