Margarette Burnette first thought about becoming a writer when she won a poetry contest. But the timing wasn’t right, as she was in the first grade and had other priorities.
Fast forward: She made it through school (UNC), got married, had kids, and she started writing. Along with Chipper Kids: Counting in the Crazy Garden, Margarette has written for Parenting, Pregnancy, Essence and more.

For those magazines, I queried first as a way to begin a relationship with the editor. Some queries resulted in assignments. Other times, editors didn't buy the idea, but because the query gave them an idea of how I write, they gave me a completely different assignment.more

Hi Margarette. Quick question: When you submitted to the above-mentioned magazines, did you query first with an outline and/or synopsis, or did you finish the article first and submit in whole? I've published local magazine articles here in Montana, but would like to reach out to national magazines.... more
