Hello Everyone -

For more than eighteen years I was a classroom teacher. While writing with my students I realized that I wanted to publish books for children. My journey began at various writers' conferences. I'd attend, listen, learn and share strategies with my students. We grew together as a community of writers. That was more than 30 years ago. I retired from the classroom fourteen years ago to become a writing consultant in schools - which I adore - and fulltime writer, working more faithfully on my craft. To date, I have published more than 250 books for children, many of which are informational school/library books.

Currently I am a writer of easy readers - My First I Can Read - with HPC and picture books with Greenwillow, Henry Holt and Marshall Cavendish.
I also have a few novelty/board books in the pipeline with Little Simon. I've just completed the fourth draft of a middle grade novel for the younger crowd and hope to soon complete another middle grade paranormal novel for the older kids. In other words, I love it all and am constantly experimenting with new genres, forms and styles.

I visit schools, sometimes with author programs, sometimes as a consultant, writing with students. Either way, it's a win-win. I'm extremely passionate about kids and their talents. In a perfect world, every child would have the inspiration and encouragement to fully develop their gifts.

Even though our professional lives as writers and illustrators can have extreme ups and downs, for me, it's the greatest job in the world.
