xanadugirl said: I had forgotten books can make you feel things. I was a wreck for a week after reading this book. The unique shifting perspectives contrasts that of an orphan child coming of age in WWII Germany with that of the persona of Death himself, two voices that have never before told the story of this war in such a way. It turns on a dime from innoncence and joy to heartbreak and tragedy. You feel like you've been warmed by a gentle sun and then plunged into icewater after reading this. Everyone should read it, and I think it should be taught in schools.
