Every short poem starts off with, “Over in the meadow…” The octave setup uses an ABABDBDB rhyme scheme. The number amount, numeral, and word are all offered on the same page. The illustrations in this book are very colorful and the design of the book is very interesting. On every page a hole is cut out on the right to reveal the animal for that number. The meadow, which remains the same, on the right adds characters as the story moves along. The numbers are shown through the holes on the right as the page is turned, so the reader can see how far they have come. The animals are happy, cheery, and being presented in kind and playful behavior. The holes in the book are inviting for little fingers to explore.
