Jolby said: Jolby, a Portland based design and illustration team, just released their new children’s book titled “The King’s 6th Finger,” which they co-authored with local writer Rachel Roellke. This is no ordinary book. With mid-century-inspired illustrations and a whimsical rhyme pattern, “The King’s 6th Finger” is a fresh approach to children’s literature. To top it off, the story has an important lesson about balance in everyday life. “The King in our story, Mortimer, is obsessed with the number 5. He has to have everything in fives, even his moats and the hairs on his head. One day he wakes up and has grown a 6th finger, and all hell breaks loose,” says Colby Nichols, one half of the Jolby studio. “He eventually figures out that he needs to adapt to his new finger. Our original ending was much different, but we thought it would be better if Morty just let go a little bit.” Jolby (the single brain that inhabits both Colby Nichols and Josh Kenyon) has been producing quirky, thoughtful illustration and design since 2005
