Unadorned said: Wow. Sunday walk in the park it is not. Rock Bottom is a drug infused, sex obsessed, profanity flinging dra-ma! Raunchy is an understatement. In the book we follow the four seriously flawed band members, each with their own issues, through one day in Amsterdam. Each band member finds their own brand of trouble while reminiscing about how their band, Blood Orphans, came to be. When I agreed to review Rock Bottom I was mistakenly under the impression that it was a biography of an actual rock band. To be honest, when I received the book, looked it over and realized my mistake I was quite disappointed. This is definitely not a book I would have chosen of my own accord. It's definitely not a book for the chaste or squeamish. But I have to say I was impressed, very impressed. This book was a true to life look behind the cocaine curtain of rock and roll, but well balanced with humor and heart. It also had a surprising feel-good ending. Mr. Shilling wrote masterfully with confidence and intelligence about a topic that can easily lead down cheese-eater lane. He managed to bring all the wild, raw and dirty aspects of rock and roll without any corny-ness. If you can get past the language (and sex and drugs) I recommend Rock Bottom.
