I started telling tales after watching Indian storytellers hold large audiences for nightlong sessions. Since then, for almost thirty years, I’ve given storytelling performances and workshops in schools, libraries, museums, and more across the U.S. and Asia. Funding from The Japan Foundation, The Korea Foundation, U.S.I.A., U.S. Department of State, Singapore’s National Library, and others has helped me to collect and share Asian tales, and to meet hundreds of storytellers across Asia.

From my storytelling come my fifteen books, along with storytelling tapes, CDs, and articles in anthologies, encyclopedias, and journals. I have an amazing son, Manu, just out of college, and live with my husband, Indian sculptor Paramasivam, on Vashon Island near Seattle and in Cholamandal Artists’ Village, South India.
