Check your own bookshelf or a bookstore for the kinds of books you like. Chances are, those are the publishers you might do best with. Then, go to the publisher's website and search out submission guidelines. For short books, submit the whole manuscript. For longer works, submit an outline and a few sample chapters. Write a one page or less letter telling what your book is, who your book is for (it can't be everyone, a targeted audience is best), and why YOU should be the one to write it. Expect to wait a long time, (we're small and it take us about 3 months to get through submissions). Do NOT compare yourself to a well known author. Do NOT ramble about the life-changing potential of your book. Do NOT submit to lots of publishers all at once. Do NOT submit material a publisher is not looking for. For example, we already have a great shepherd and lamb picture book. We won't be publishing another one, so don't send us one. DO expect to receive rejection letters. DO look at potential competition for your book. DO tell why and how your submission is essentially different. DO keep trying and DON'T give up. Hope that helps!
