In this lively comedy, Review: Nanook, his ice-fishing buddy Pryce, their dog Yukon, and a can of very animated worms take an unexpected tour of the world when the ice breaks up and carries them away: Salty brine / Floating free / Tangled line / Out to sea. Faces barely visible in their fur-lined hooded parkas, Nanook and Pryce studiously attend to their fishing hole, never looking up as their floe speeds through the northern waters, their lines tangled on a killer whales fin. A giant wave disrupts their ride; they meet up with sharks, then go on to obliviously face a fishing boat and net, a tropical shipwreck, the frozen climes of the penguin-filled Antarctic, a particularly enormous squid, and fish-stealing pelicans before they make it home, safe and sound. Dog Yukon and his worm buddies are the real stars of this show, dealing with both the hazards and pleasures of world travel: Yukon scares away the sharks and wrestles a giant squid; the worms, posing as judges, score dolphins leaps. With so much to look at on each amusingly detailed spread, the short, rhyming couplets may get little notice, but with their clever brevity and humor they sure deserve some. Young readers will be flipping back and forth to the endpapers to check the map of the trip...and hoping for further adventures.-Horn Book
