I grew up with stories. My family told lots of stories. Mostly about the exploits (adventurous and mundane)
of relatives or the nefarious doings of folks in that part of the state back then. I learned that real life is interesting, shocking, educational. My love of history was born at the same time. In school I would have benefited from an editor since an 8 page assignment would turn into 42 pages with graphs and maps. I feel sympathy for my teachers, my woeful typing eclipsed only by my rotten handwriting. But the content was there, the stories good.
Decades pass. A career in music, continued interest in nonfiction and historical fiction, and here I am. Back to needing an editor. But my typing has improved. Not so the handwriting. We pick our battles.
