About Patricia
I grew up in the country side, in the interior of Sao Paulo City, surrounded by a lot of green and silence. The loudest sound in my surroundings was the wind blowing and howling away through a eucalyptus forest in stormy nights.
To go to school was a trip of 12 kilometers and to play with friends, a walking trip of ten to twenty minutes. I have liked to read since I was a little girl and, around 12 years old, I discovered that the books I really liked were the ones about mysteries, mind powers, religions, different cultures, wisdom – this kind of thing.
I had an enormous curiosity about issues difficult to be explained, such us: Why people have different ideas abut God? If a soul goes to heaven after dying, how is life around there? What are dreams, really? Why some people have powers like premonition or clairvoyance? Why a fit of bad temper makes one looses one’s head?
Luckily, at home, we had lots of books of all kinds of literature, and I spent a good part of my time reading.
At that time, there was no computer, the Internet, games, or cell phones and the children spent a good part of their days playing hide-and-seek, climbing trees or swimming in the lake.
I was also very fond of animals, so, after a storm, I used to go out through the garden looking for birds that might have fallen from their nests. I always found one and, if couldn’t return it to its nest, I created a little corner for it in my bedroom. I picked up howls, pigeons and many others little birds. I once picked up such a tiny little bird, I had to teach it fly myself. Once, I brought a wounded vulture home. Can you believe that my mother let me look after him? At a corner of the garden, of course!
As I enjoyed reading, I enjoyed writing, too and I produced even a family little journal, reporting all that took place during the week. As I was the owner of the journal, the reporter, the writer and the illustrator at the same time, everything I wrote about me was highly flattering. I still have a few “press” copies and I laugh my head off with things like: “The excellent pupil Patricia Kenney, today, received a 10 grade at school!” My parents were also super-praised in the journal, but my two brothers, poor fellows, did not have a chance.
When I grew up, I took up journalism. Afterwards, I worked at large companies in the training area and, now, I have a little communication business together with my husband, who is a graphic artist. In 2006, I published my first collection of children books and two other collections are ready and in the press.
