My name is Jorge; I am originally from Havana, Cuba and grew up in Chicago. I came to the United States at the age of 5 in 1971, during the Cuban mass exodus, that’s when all the Cuban exiles left the island. In 1977, at the age of 10, I become a U.S. Citizen at no cost. Back in those days, I believe that the fee was only $50 dollars per person, and for children under 12 the fee was waived. At the age of 6, I had a benign brain tumor and went through a very rough time. I made it and recovered completely, but it took many years for that to happen.
