Karl Newsom Edwards is a children’s picture book author and illustrator. Born in Oakland, California, in 1952, he is a graduate of the California College of the Arts. He made his debut as an author/illustrator in 2015 with Fly! (Alfred A. Knopf.). Fly! was nominated to the ALA list of Notable Books of 2015. A long-time illustrator, books include "Er-lang and the Seven Sun" by Tony Guo and Euphine Cheung, the Edgar-award winning Sammy Keyes series by Wendelin Van Draanen, and 2011 Newbery Honor book "The New Kid" by Mavis Jukes. Karl is involved with the Yell and Tell Foundation, a child safety advocacy nonprofit. He is also a veteran graphics and headbadge designer for bicycle handbuilders. He toured Europe and Japan on a Victorian highwheel bicycle he restored. Karl lives in Portland, Oregon.
