Just completed first draft of my Y.A. novel, Shanty Gold, yesterday! Yay. It's a fictional takeoff on my great, great grandmother, who came to America from Ireland in 1849.

All I knew of my protagonist was her name, Mary Boland, but she has invaded my dreams since childhood. I think it's a great, adventure-filled story, and I'm really proud of it. It'll be the first of four novels under the heading, Daughters of Famine. The next novel will be about Nellie Kelly. The third about Holly O'Neill, and the fourth will be about Kate O'Neill.

I'm heading for Ireland next week for ten days and will start the edit when I get back. I'll keep the wind at my back.
