I was sitting out under a tree in Chicago attempting to catch the scenery in a mirrowed building. I had 2 whole days' to play in. I spread my art blanket out. Set out my utinsils around me determined to catch the sun, shadows, and illusions in the building's mirrored reflection's. Joy of Joy's, no planes to catch! No make up. No stage managers yelling. Just a quiet park.

I have a very bad habit when I am alone with my art. I turn on my tape recorder and attempt to write at the same time. ROFl The stories I could tell you!

This all began very early in the morning, as I truly wanted to watch the sun rise in the mirror. I was dressed dowdy as I did not want to walk around town with paint, charcoal, ink, pastels, or created color' mixes all over me.

As I am sketching here comes a shadow. Being the eldest of a large family, known as a storyteller. I am acustomed to being watched. Without looking up from what I was doing (attempting to shadow a tree) I asked it (the shadow) to kindly feel free to look at the preliminary sketch pile. Find one it liked, I would sign it, for it. The condition being that it "get out of my light!"

Drat! It looks through my stuff. I notice the stripe. Yep an officer! I love officer's. They do alot of good stuff for people! I only would that they were required to take a course, a full 8 weeks in people! Artist's, Writer's, Musical People. We do not usually mean to be rude, it's just that most people turn on the tube or go to a theater to be entertained. It takes hours to create anything worthy to be looked at. (Even by an idiot)

He spoke kindly at first. I looked up into laughing Irish eye's! One would think that being of Irish desent that he would under stand the joy an Artist would have finding a place in a park to study.

I had to leave the park to catch a flight before I was finished. Thank's to a long winded conversation. But Fan's the striped person in the novelette Striped is an Irish officer! He started it! I was sitting politely in a park working on a 12 picture set of Illusion Art! I did not have the time to finish them. Just back to work. Plane's to catch, stage manager's yelling, make up.

Try it once! Find a mirror. (Guy's do not get your wifes make up mirror's) Now set it any where! Try to draw what you see in the mirror!

I'll bet anyone that tries it will understand. No, I was not angry with the Officer, not even a little bit. There is a differance between angry and knowing not to let the little things get you down. Hey! I would love to see the results of your attempts at Mirror Art! We could have a fun art show right here, with Tracy's Permission of course.

Do not worry if your first attempts are not as good as mine I am left handed It looks normal to me.

Remember Officer's are there to serve and protect. They often misundertand the research process of Artistic or creative people. Be yourself. If you are in a large city, introduce yourself to them. Have an identification card made at the drivers lisence breau. If you go down to the crafts store you can find attachments that will allow the identification to be worn where they can see it.

(And you won't forget where you put so you would not forget it) I often do not carry my Purse as there are to many way's to lose important items. Just enough cash to purchase lunch, or call the hotel to send a cab. This will assure them that somewhere between the abstract you are sketching, and the reality they see;

That you are not a vagabond, or estranged person, engaging in whatever activities those outside the art zone are doing causing them to respond so badly to your desire to sit quietly in the park and sketch.

Monet as well as all the great's sat in parks, in all kinds of weather......
