Miss Minerva and the Sweet Potato Vine
This book is for older children, adolescents and adults and is written and illustrated by the author using watercolor pencil and ink.
Miss Minerva is an old mouse who loves to tell stories to her grandchildren. In this coming of age tale reminiscent of Jack and the Bean Stalk, Minerva recalls one hot summer from her youth. She and her aging father live in the wall of an apartment building. Minerva's mother has died at the claws of Altus, a fearsome cat, and her father is turning into a sad and bitter old man. As Minerva and her father grow thinner from hunger, she must find a way to get food for them both. Her courage and ingenuity help her overcome fear and grief and discover what kind of mouse she will be.
