One other thing I need to mention: If you work overseas, you will be allowed to either live on base or be paid to live 'on the economy.' In the US, you're on your own. Most definitely, Sharon! Both the Army and the Air Force are looking for librarians with experience working with the public, not locked away in some research lab. By the way, the Navy and Marines are not big on libraries. I'm sure that in Houston, you and your supervisors face bureaucratic B.S. f... more

Sharon: You've gone to the right place to apply for a job. As far as the type of work, if you are assigned to a 'base' (Air Force) or 'post' (Army) library, it's exactly the same as a public library ---kids, students, adults, retirees. Sharon: I never served in the military due to a bad knee, but in 1969 I received a call from the Army asking if I was interested in working as a civilian librarian in Vietnam.
