I have been in book publishing and sales for over 20 years. After working for an international religious correspondence institute in Belgium in their editorial department for almost 3 months, and talking life and the world with great minds, I felt that writing and publishing were my calling. After finding out that I needed to get some experience before working for the UN - I was fresh out of college in 1988 - I landed my first job as a Production Assistant at Henry Holt, working under one of the brilliant heads of production in the industry. By the time I left Holt the end of 1989 I had the chance to work on reprints, hc to pb conversions and select new titles. I then jumped to the manufacturing side and spent 2 years as a sales assistant again working under a man who ultimately shaped my future without knowing it. I then spent 3 years as a production manager/import-export manager/product manager for a materials manufacturer doing a lot of things that I absolutely loved and that added more experience under my belt between overseas printing, materials ordering, importing and exporting of product, etc.. In 1995 I landed my first sales position at Port City Press, after much prodding by peers and mentors in the industry to try it out. I thought I wouldn't last, and now 13 years later I am still in printing sales - now at Walsworth for the past 6.5 years - and still enjoy working with both my self-publishing clients who let me meddle in their books (my production hat comes back on a lot), as well as my larger clients who I share memories of veloxes and comp sheets!
