Born in Trinidad & Tobago, where she grew up on jumbie stories and fairy tales, Tracey Baptiste decided to be a writer at the age of three. Her latest novel THE JUMBIES (Algonquin Young Readers) is a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year, a Junior Library Guild Selection, and a We Need Diverse Books pick. A sequel is forthcoming in Fall 2017. Her debut YA, ANGEL’S GRACE (Paula Wiseman Books, Simon & Schuster) was named one of the 100 best books for reading and sharing by New York City librarians. She has also written several nonfiction books, most recently, THE TOTALLY GROSS HISTORY OF ANCIENT EGYPT (Rosen Publishing). Tracey is a former elementary school teacher, and works as a freelance editor for individual clients and with publishing houses such as Lee & Low Books. She is on the faculty at Lesley University's Creative Writing MFA program, and she is currently booking school visits.
