Wampum Books was created to find new writers and enable them to tell their authentic stories, with a special emphasis on Native American authors and illustrators.
With increasing demand for books that represent the diversity of modern experience, parents, teachers and readers themselves are searching for quality stories from under-represented voices. Wampum is one of the few publishers committed to producing books about Native Americans written by Native American authors and illustrated by Native American artists.
Founded in 2009 by Stephanie A. Duckworth of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head Aquinnah, Wampum Books is one of only a few Native American-owned publishing companies in the United States.
