Hi Angela, sorry I didn't get back to you earlier - I don't log onto jacketflap very often. The book for 8-10 yr olds I had published was one of the Trekkers series published by Macmillan back in 2005 (or maybe 2006). I hope you enjoyed the CYA conference, I didn't go this year but I did hear Margo Lanagan talk a couple of times at the BWF & found her really interesting, especially at the talk she did on Thursday for high school kids. Corel Painter and Photoshop are great tools for not only illustrating, but,as I said to the ladies in my art class yesterday, they are fantastic for improving your painting skills for a few reasoins, namely
1)You can be a lot more slap happy with the (virtual) paint and not have to worry about the cost of the paint, canvas, brushes etc, (I don't know about you, but when I used to paint traditionally, I was always worrying about ruining thatexpensive new brush, or, this sheet of watercolour paper cost me $10.00 etcetc). So you can be bolder, more daring and not have to worry about these things.
2) It improves you painting skills because you can make mistakes and just hit 'edit' if it's not right.

A drawing tablet is a fairly inexpensive item and I couldn't be without it now. For my illustrative work, I've come to rely on it (and the programs) as it is so much quicker than the traditional methods, which I still employ, but mainly for my fine art work.

This one is purely for my ketchy stuff, the other one's becoming a little eclectic.
The classes were run in the gallery's workshop to coincide with my exhibition (which is running till the beginning of August) and I'm now teaching cartooning skills for a 5 week evening stint at a local high school, which may be fairly..... interesting. (gulp).
I enjoyed doing the step-by-step thingy on my blog, so, no doubt, I'll add more in time.
