Hi, Alan: A world war one novel--wow! A terrible war, I gather. I actually researched it for a sort of family (adult) novel I'm slowly working on, about my Scottish grandmother coming to America in 1912. Her lover dies in WW1 and she gets Spanish Influenza, but survives. Much of it true, but fictionalized.... Am I disciplined, you ask? I quit teaching to be able to write every day--about 4 hours. But I don't outline, so my characters sort of take over. I like to stay open and ignorant and see what happens. More fun that way! My St. Martin's Press editor asked me to outline one of my books ahead and I had to write the book as fast as possible so I could then write the outline! How about you? Do you outline? There seem to be two schools of thought. I guess either will work--it just depends on the writer.

Weather? well, snowing today as usual, along with a few shiny ice pellets that will all turn to rain. But hopefully a virtual sun will shine on my writing. What am I writing now, you ask? Well, I'm finishing a mystery novel called Broken Strings about a puppeteer who swallows fresh yew during a performance of Sleeping Beauty, and collapses. I'm also working on a kids' novel about a boy who has 5 mothers and is sent away to a boarding school where he doesn't fit in. How about you? What are you working on?
