Liliana Stafford. My latest picture book is called Heipparallaa! and is due to be published November 2008 but I began writing seriously after the death of a beautiful welsh mountain pony called Chiko ridden by my daughter Hermine. Chiko's story became the first two novels in a horse series published by The University of Western Australia Press. Chiko Book One Through the Starting Flags and the fourth book in the series Shah both won the Hoffman Award in the WAYRBA( WA children's choice awards)I also write picture books. Grandpa's Gate was short listed for the WA Premier's Award 2003 and Amelia Ellicott's Garden was a notable book in two categories in the 2001 CBC awards. I am published both here and overseas. Since 2005 l am discovering the joy of being both writer and illustrator, working in tissue paper collage, encaustic wax and parchment. My first title as both writer and illustrator The Stone Elephant came out in October 2007.I enjoy travel to the shops, the beach or overseas. It feeds my imagination and gives me endless material for new pictures and stories. Writing is like breathing it's in everything I do.My workshops and author talks focus mainly on how to turn fact into fiction and encouraging reading and storytelling for all ages. I work with large stuffed animals, dress-ups, music and overhead pictures plus a variety of materials from the making of my books. The aim is to create a fun environment in which to learn about writing, illustrating and stories with the emphasis on the willingness to have a go.Forthcoming Title Heipparallaa!
