When Leonie was a girl, she loved to read. At night, when her parents gave the call for lights out, she would sit at her windowsill and read by moon light. Her sneaky reading came at a price. By fifteen years-of-age she was wearing glasses. "These days I use more reliable lighting for my pursuits," Leonie said. "yet I remember my reading by moonlight - with a smile. I still love to read but writing gives me even greater pleasure."

Leonie Murphy has a Diploma of Arts in Professional Writing and Editing. Her first book, Sk8! was published by Pearson Longman Education in 2002 and went into reprint the same year. Her short story, My Purple Solitude was published by Oxford University Press - in an anthology of Australian Short Stories - Reading the Signs, 2003. Leonie operates WriteSpace, a small business which provides confidence building - writing workshops to local schools, groups or services. WriteSpace employs local published authors/poets and writers of non-fiction to assist. Through WriteSpace Leonie provides relevant programs to schools in her local area of north west Victoria, Australia.

Leonie is currently working on two history projects: the biography of Murray River Icon Captain Alby Pointon, famous for rebuilding and skippering P.S. Melbourne + The Mildura Rowing Club 1923 to 2006. Both books will be launched in 2008.
