I am a young adult writer and a Canadian War Artist, (really it's called the CFAP). This program has been around since WW1. In the past only painters and photographers have been included. I am the first Y/A writer to be a war artist. I went to Afghanistan in 2009. I was in a forward operation base (FOB.) War Artists are not paid, do not report to anyone and do not have their work cleared. My book Thunder Over Kandahar (Annick) is about two Afghan girls and will come out in July.
I write and work in war zones all the time. My last book, War Brothers, was written in Uganda. What's next I wonder......
