Welcome to my JacketFlap site! I am the author of the Arkansas Oil Days Collection, a series of books set during the oil boom days of the 1920s in South Arkansas. The stories are based loosely on my family's history. My paternal grandmother, her first husband, and their four boys were part of the boom. She used to tell me stories from those days when I was young, but they have never been forgotten! Each of the books in this collection includes information from the stories she told me. Having grown up in the Frenchport area myself where I set my stories, I am familiar with the people and the lay of the land around the oilfields. In addition, my father did electrical work in those same oilfields until recently. Therefore, my stories have an authenticity that adds to the historical flair of my historical fiction/mystery/suspense collection. With 28 years of teaching experience in the classroom, I discovered a need for good literature for the middle reader that features boys in the lead roles. Reluctant readers are rampant among this population. Therefore, I have targeted this group with my writing with success. Since 2006, I have been known as The Reluctant Reader's Friend with the publication of my first novel in the Arkansas Oil Days collection--WHISPERING DARKNESS. This collection of historical fiction/mystery/suspense novels is not only entertaining, it is an aid for helping reluctant readers become avid readers. I am making use of my teaching degrees and experience in the classroom to insert educational opportunities for using my collection in any classroom across the curriculum, in addition to helping readers develop their comprehension skills, reasoning skills, and critical thinking.
