2H design is a graphic design consultancy specializing in design for publishing set up by Ned Hoste. Over the past 22 years 2H has developed extensive knowledge in design for publishing with experience in the UK, US and international multi-lingual co-editions.

2H’s clients include; Random House UK Group, Nick Hern Books, D&S Books (book packagers working primarily in US markets) Quarto, Hodder Headline Publishers, Colman Getty PR, Out-Take among many.

2H have also had considerable experience in design of marketing and promotional items for books from shelf wobblers through to Frankfurt Bookfair stands, Bookseller ads to national press and magazine advertising, presentations for bookfairs to project pitches.

2H has worked with Ray Mears since 2001 with Bushcraft in the top 10 bestseller lists for 3 months in 2002. Since then I have also designed 5 more of Ray’s books. We also worked with the 2001 World Rally Champion, Richard Burns, on his book Driving Ambition for Hodder and Stoughton publishers. These adding to the other celebrity names we have designed for over the years including; Jilly Cooper, Antony Sher, Michael Gambon, Timothy West, Susannah York, Norman Wisdom, Kirk Douglas among many. 2H also designed the book celebrating the 100th anniversary of Foyles bookshop in London.

One of the major projects of the recent years has been a private press book about one of the founding members of The Rolling Stones, with contributions from the band and many other notable names from rock music of the last 40 years. This project I art-directed, designed and was involved with sourcing printers, binders and helping supervise print and pre-press aspects of the project.

2H has thrived over the years by developing a strong business relationship with our clients, providing a high level of service tailored to each customer’s specific requirements. We have worked with some of our clients for over 20 years and believe that a personal service and the continuity of approach helps develop an ability to identify the problems of each individual client and leads to better design solutions.
2H also has a reputation of working with authors to bring the best out of a projects whether this is working with the typography to set the style and pace of the book through to full collaboration and art direction, assisting with picture selection, binding specification and supporting coordinated marketing items.

Knowledge of print technology allows 2h to get the most out of clients’ print budgets and an ability to produce printed items, which often exceed their expectations of what they can afford. This is particularly important in an economic climate that demands value for money and return on investment.
