Matt de la Peña's debut novel, Ball Don't Lie, was published by Delacorte in September of 2005. The novel is soon to be released as a major motion picture starring Ludacris, Nick Cannon, Emelie de Ravin, Grayson Boucher, and Rosanna Arquette (Night and Day Pictures). In the fall of 2008 de la Peña's second novel, Mexican WhiteBoy, will be released by Delacorte, and his short story “Last Red Light Before We’re There” will appear in the hard cover collection Does This Book Make Me Look Fat, edited by Marisa Walsh. He has published fiction in various literary journals, including: Pacific Review, The Vincent Brothers Review, Chiricú, Two Girl’s Review, George Mason Review, and Allegheny Literary Review. He received his MFA in creative writing from San Diego State University where he was a two time AWP award winner in short fiction. Prior to that, de la Peña received his BA from the University of the Pacific, where he was awarded the prestigious Arlen J. Hanson Grant for Creative Writing and attended school on a full athletic scholarship for basketball. de la Peña currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, and teaches creative writing workshops all over New York City.
