At this moment I'm writing for children of all ages in Aruba and the Netherlands. I write and publish in Papiamento (native language of Aruba), Dutch (official language of our island) and hopefully soon in English and Spanish.

I'm not really an illustrator, but when my first book - a children's poetry book - was written, it needed to be illustrated. In Aruba, writing and illustrating were not very popular activities, let alone serious career possibilities. So I thought, someone had to do it, someday. That's how I ended up illustrating; books, posters, ads, educational material...

Still, I would like to be considered a writer. Why? Because I've been trying to convince myself and the people around me, that this is what I came to do on earth. I've been writing and loving it even before I could read. I did everyone, including myself, a favor to go abroad and study to become a successful career-person. Trust me, there are no career possibilities out there I haven't tried to come to this conclusion: writing is what I want to do in this life.

Nowadays I'm showing the children of Aruba how fun reading can be. Almost five years ago, two friends and myself, founded Fundacion Papiamente; a foundation that creates awareness on the importance of reading by e.g. organizing events to bring people and books together, doing anything to stimulate the pleasure of reading on the island.
