Artie Bennett is the executive copy editor for a children’s book publisher and he writes a little on the side (but not the backside!). He wrote "The Dinosaur Joke Book: A Compendium of Pre-Hysteric Puns" when he was a much younger man. "The Butt Book" is his first "mature" work. His "number two" picture book, fittingly entitled "Poopendous!," published in March 2012. It was followed by "Peter Panda Melts Down!," which published in February 2014 just as panda fever was sweeping the nation. Then came the uproarious "Belches, Burps, and Farts—Oh My!" He was the youngest (at about age thirteen) person to originate and sell a crossword puzzle to the "New York Times." This was part of his “checkered” past. To this day, he collects colorful and evocative words, such as pilgarlic (“a bald-headed man”), callipygian (“having a shapely buttocks”), and limacine (“sluglike”).He has an irregular passion for regular exercise and enjoys rollerblading (though, sadly, he’ll never learn to brake), tooling his bike around Prospect Park, playing squash, and practicing hatha yoga, which, as you know, is better than no yoga at all. He’s also an eager swimmer and has even coined a term, laphappy, to characterize the swimmer’s high he often achieves.Artie Bennett is active in a local Toastmasters chapter and has developed a fondness for speechifying. He’s delivered several speeches on such disparate topics as Bigfoot, soup, and W. C. Fields and has been showered, alternately, with overflowing accolades and overripe tomatoes.He’s a sucker for the great outdoors and enjoys nature travel, never having subscribed to Woody Allen’s dictum: “I am two with nature.” He botanizes and bird-watches—and claims to have seen a prothonotary warbler, whose name pleases him as much as its aspect does.
