I have been trying to get a publisher to LOOK at my ADVENTURE book aimed at 7 - 9 year olds that has a child who is deaf and another in a wheelchair as the heroes.
NO publishers are interested because this is a 'niche' market. But surly we should include ALL children in our literature. Most books today include ethnic children, why shouldn't children that have disabilities be excluded. It would also ensure some understanding between ALL children.
There charaters are very cheeky, their imagination and needs are just the same as most children and their disability is only ONE part of their character. They are not shown as 'special' or 'different.' In my story and will interest ANY child.
I have had overwhelming support from teachers who are 'crying out' for this sort of book, but cannot find any.
Is there any publisher that would consider LOOKING at it instead of following 'trends?' I know that you have to think of profits etc, but I think there is a GAP in the market for my kind of book.
Please help!!
