Jill, Hi. Am sharing a p.b. title with you this way as I came across the JF link unexpectedly after messing up at a post on WRC blog (regarding magazine reading.)

"Cora Cooks Pancit," written by Dorina lazo Gilmore & illustrated by Kristi Valiant
is a reality-based p.b. fantasy, in that
the youngest in the family, who only gets the "baby" jobs in the kitchen, is allowed to really help cook one day.
The recipe is a traditional dish of the Phillipines. The author has Filipino hertiage.
