Donald, This is a hard business. I've been shopping my work around to publishers and magazines for 10 yrs. now. I have a handful of mag credits and my first pb is soon to be released. I could wallpaper my office with the rejection slips I've received and many times have wanted to throw in the towel and just quit. But writing is part of me. I couldn't quit if I wanted to. If you're a real writer, you won't stop writing either. It's inside you and begging to come out. It's what you do with it once it gets out that matters. As I look back at my early works, I can now see why they weren't published. I've learned a lot in 10 years. My work gets better and better. I belong to writers groups, SCBWI, I take classes, and workshops and keep on writing. Eventually, some editor or agent is going to get as excited by my work as I am. And the same works for you. Keep writing. Keep learning. Get better and someone will notice. Good luck!

If writing, or anything for that matter, that is worthwhile, and worth doing, was so easy, everyone, and probably their dog, would be doing it, and procuring an agent, let alone a publisher, is an achievement in itself, but this is long haul game. I don't have a publisher either, but it hasn't stopped me selling 1400 odd books through one chain, in fact that's the same figure Harry Potter achieved in the first year of sales with a UK wide distribution.
