2. Themed art - Princess

Some more work from a version of Cinderella I drew for Japanese publisher Hikari no Kuni many years ago. At the time I'd been researching the French Revolution a great deal and had large stock pile of art references of the late 18th Century. The setting is very much the dying days of the Ancien Régime, so sadly Cinders and Prince Charming may not have had long to enjoy their happiness!

3. Fifty Feminist Picture Books to Inspire Girls

 More often than not children's books feature boys as the main characters. But, fortunately, more books are coming out each year that highlight girls.

Kristian Wilson on Bustle.com lists fifty feminist books for children, including:
The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch
You Forgot Your Skirt, Amelia Bloomer! by Shana Corey
Princess Grace by Mary Hoffman
Me . . . Jane by Patrick McDonnell
The Ballad of the Pirate Queens by Jane Yolen
A Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams
Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty

Visit Kristian Wilson's article 50 Feminist Book Gifts For Your Nieces and Nephews This Holiday Season  for her complete list of contemporary and classic works that make great reading for the girls in your life. And don't take the headline literally. Of course, these books aren't just for your nieces and nephews and the holiday season. They make great gifts for any child at any time of year.

4. Princess Theme

Here are a couple of princess images I created.  One was for a Halloween book and features my daughter with her friends and cousin. The other is a spread from A Little Princess which I stepped in to illustrate for another illustrator when she could not meet the deadline...I'm glad I took the job!

6. my heart....

those who know me know that i am a sucker for little kids. healthy ones, sick ones, underprivileged ones....all little kids. perhaps it comes from spending 16 years of my life as a preschool teacher, which is much more than just "teaching"...it's an almost maternal-like *job* (and i use the word "job" very loosely-as it never was anything of the sort for me).

ok, before i get too sappy here (happens with stories like this), if you could please take a moment and send this precious little angel a Christmas card, i have a feeling it would make the entire rest of her year! and please, feel free to share this link with everyone you know. the more, the merrier! :)

{one of the joys of painting for children....hope she loves them!}

18. a method to my madness...

i always love seeing how other artists come up with their masterpieces...from the moment of conception to the finished product.
so, i thought i'd share my 3 step process...from the tiny, super tight little thumbnail to the full size sketch (same size as the canvas) to the completed painting.
{such royal treatment for a princess...;)}
step 1
super tight little thumbnail

step 2
full size sketch
