1. Margot's GRAB BAG

"HEARTBLEED"

 Nothing romantic about this heart!

This is the terrible problem that was an ACCIDENTAL mistake by a programmer several years ago, was not picked up by other code checkers, and now has major sites and providers over a barrel.  Read more about how to protect yourself from Heartbeat on my "TECKIE NEWS and Help" board on Pinterest: <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]-->  http://www.pinterest.com/margotfinke/

Norton has sent me a link to a site where I can check all my most used web and blog lings to see if they are infected, or NOT with Heartbeat. A 2 second click, and you can reassure yourself about any site: <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]-->

TECKIE HELP

I recommend KIM KOMANDO'S daily updates and website for advice on new purchases, scams, virus protection, and everything technical to do with computers and e-readers etc. Her Radio Show is nation wide.

KIM KOMANDO WROTE:
Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse with 'Heartbleed' ... they do.
The "Heartbleed" bug that has floored Internet experts around the world just got worse. Cisco and Juniper, two of the largest network equipment makers, said today that the vulnerability, which exposes encrypted data like passwords, is present in their routers, switches and firewalls.

MY VIRUS PROTECTION MANTRA
<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE <![endif]-->
You need super reliable virus protection at any time, plus one other program that sweeps your computer's floor after your protection has done the rounds - just in case!  I have used NORTON for years, and it keeps me safe.  I also have Win Patrol - a nifty little program that among many other things warns me whenever anything wants to alter or add to my Registry.  COOL!!

The main thing for whatever virus protection you use, is to keep the program updated, do regular computer scans, and download the latest virus protection fixes daily.   Keep other programs, like Quick Time, Apple and Microsoft programs etc updated as well.  You can set these things to be done automatically.

Playing ostrich will not stop something bad happening
if you don't do YOUR part in protecting
your computer.

2. Stitches

by David SmallNorton 2009This graphic memoir about the illustrator reinforces the stereotype of the suffering artist, but does a fine job doing so.Small recounts the major periods of his life that center around his having cancer as a child that developed to the point where he had to have glands in his neck and half his vocal chords removed. His father, a radiologist, and his emotionally closed

3. Ypulse Essentials: 'North Face' Vs. 'South Butt,' 'Stop Cyberbulling' Month, Twitter Phone

4. IF: Fog

Splish. Splash. The only sound that could be heard in the fog was the sound of his make-shift pole pushing his lily boat through the water. Like a beacon in the night, Mr. Firefly’s light guided Norton through the gray darkness. The fog was chilly and moist, and soon his coat was covered in tiny dew drops of water, that shook when he shivered.
“’Tis not much farther now!” shouted Mr. Firefly, “not much farther at all!”

Illustration Friday is a weekly creative outlet/participatory art exhibit for illustrators and artists of all skill levels. It was designed to challenge participants creatively. We believe that every person has a little creative bone in their body. Illustration Friday just gives a no-pressure, fun excuse to use it. No clients looking for a particular thing. No one judging the outcome of the work. It's a chance to experiment and explore and play with visual art. So welcome, novices and pros alike.

5. IF: Fierce (Meet Norton!)

Heh, we've come full circle. Mouse meets Lion. And Mouse finally has a name, thanks to my wonderful name-giving husband. Mouse hence forth shall be known as Norton! I sketched this in pencil, and then "color" in photoshop. About an hour of work.

7. How I Save Money -- a money poem and a saving poem

HOW I SAVE MONEY
By
Gregory K.

My parents always tell me “Saving money is the key!”
So I’ve figured out a lot of ways that saving works for me.

Today, in fact, I saved a dollar eight from being sad --
I used it for some candy, and I know that made it glad.

Last week, I saw some quarters in a fountain at the mall…
So I saved them all from drowning (then they bought a basketball).

My allowance funds get lonely, but I save them if I spend ‘em,
And I get them into registers where lots of bills befriend ‘em.

And just the other day I bought … well… I don’t know what you call it,
But I saved two twenty dollar bills from rotting in dad’s wallet.

I know a lot of other tricks, but I don’t want to bore you…
Instead just send me all your cash. I’ll gladly save it for you!

Happy final Poetry Friday of National Poetry Month. Go check out the collected links nicely gathered up over on A Wrung Sponge.

(I'm posting an original poem-a-day through April in celebration of National Poetry Month. Links to this and other poems here on GottaBook (and there are lots of others, because poetry is NOT just for April) are collected over on the right of the blog under the headline "The Poems".)
