You are a genius, this is a brilliant post! You do, however, realise that all this writing leads to insanity, of both the permanent and temporary kind - all that screaming, all that eating of fridges, all that talking to and double-questioning yourself...<br />All that said, you are an inspiration and having had a little taste of Shine already, I can&#39;t wait to read the whole, completed book!

I especially love point 5 here - &#39;what&#39;s great about this story?&#39; A timely reminder (for me) to concentrate on the good stuff and ditch the bad, rather than rewriting it to fit. I write shorter books, not novels, but found points 5 and 6 extremely interesting. I like the idea of &quot;focusing on what is GREAT&quot; and the image of a light fuse is also memorable. Your blog entries (and acceptance speeches) are always full of wisdom! Thanks Candy.

Congratulations on finishing the book. I do love the cover and the blurb. Good idea to focus on the great not the bad of the book. Have to keep that in mind.<br /><br />Exercise - you can break down the 30 mins in half if you want. Do 15 mins am and the other 15 pm. That is what I do and have lost 8lbs so far.

Joining Nanowrimo used to be one of my ambitions - but it&#39;s a tough call for a slow writer. I find that I can&#39;t go forward unless my text is polished to a certain level ... and then I still keep questioning myself, is this really what I want to say? Thanks for the comforting story.

That is hilarious! I am fully stricken with the disease of writing and shall forward this to family and friends immediately! Another thing you should never ask a writer is: what&#39;s your character&#39;s motivation? That will elicit non stop verbiage and leave them severely agitated.

Brilliant! <br />Though I think we need a follow-up post: about the Editing Writer. Even the RSPCW would allow this creature to be caged for the safety of themselves and those around them, I am sure.

My husband would laugh his head off at this one: &quot;If faced with a demand for a simile/metaphor/character name/variety of garden bird, pull your best &#39;thinking face&#39; until your Writer comes to their own conclusion. It won&#39;t matter. They wouldn&#39;t have liked your idea anyway.&quot; Definitely rings true!

This is so true!The best cure for a writer is the care and understanding of family and friends. It&#39;s not a cure as such, but helps to alleviate the symptoms. Katy, I&#39;m afraid you have flown a bit close and seem to be infected with the bug . . .
