1. Harry Potter illustrator, Mary GrandPré, to Deliver Speech on Illustration

Mary GrandPré, the artist who illustrated the Scholastic editions of the Harry Potter series, will speak at an event this Saturday, November 21 at Bloomingdale Regional Public Library in Velrico, Florida, tbo.com reports.

The talk will be beneficial for anyone who wants to learn about the illustration of books, as well as the working relationship between illustrator and author.

In the 30 years she has been a freelance illustrator, her projects have included advertising, packaging, book covers, editorial and children’s picture-book illustrations, as well as concept painting and character design for animated movies.

The artist creates her fantasy-themed and real-life based pieces with an assortment of media, including collage, acrylic and oil paints, and pastels on printmaking paper, as she used for the Harry Potter books.

GrandPré is a multiple-award winning artist and recently received a 2015 Caldecott Honor for her illustrations of Barb Rosenstock’s “The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art.” She was included in Dr. Sylvia Rimm’s “See Jane Win: The Rimm Report on How 1,000 Girls Became Successful Women.”

The event will take place from 1:30-4 p.m, and registration is not required. GrandPré will not be available to sign books, however.
